We premiered 7 new operas! In St. Pancras Station! With all female writing teams! On International Women’s Day!! I’m not sure I’ve ever worked/rehearsed/prepared so hard but the reception at the performances was quite overwhelming; a growing crowd who followed us from location to location, others slowing and pausing for a while, proper whooping and cheering…for new opera. Opera needn’t be huffy, puffy, stuffy and static. The repertoire is perfectly accessible and enjoyable for all kinds of people - it’s the people who want to keep their club exclusive who need to stop deliberately alienating people just to make themselves feel more important.
